Book of the Month March 2022 Predictions

Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning I receive a small compensation to help support my blog if you decide to make a purchase through my links at no cost to you.

I guessed two of the February 2022 Book of the Month picks, so I consider that a win! I know many of us were disappointed in the picks because we had our hearts set on some of the books from prediction posts. Remember that these posts are meant to put new books on your radar and increase anticipation in the next month’s picks!

We all have different reading tastes, so while you may be disappointed one month, another reader may find more books than they have space for in their box! That’s the great thing about reading though-we all bond over the hobby itself but we all have different interests and tastes when picking our next book.

Remember there are multiple ways to support the authors we love even when their books aren’t picked up by Book of the Month. Even reserving/requesting a copy through your local library helps authors!

At the time of writing this, Target is having their buy two get one free book sale and it includes preorders! So take a peak back at my February predictions you were hoping for and add them to your cart during the sale. (As of February 9, Amazon is also having a buy two get one free book sale!)

book of the month march 2022

If you’ve been around for a while, you know Book of the Month (BOTM) is my favorite book subscription service. I love the anticipation of finally seeing the five monthly picks and always have fun trying to guess what may show up on the app on the first of every month.

If you aren’t familiar with BOTM, you can check out my full review of this subscription service. The basic idea is BOTM chooses five books from different genres every month and members can choose their pick when the books go live. You can also add on up to two more books for only $10.99 each.

If you don’t like any of the picks, you can choose to skip and save your credit for the next month, which is honestly the best part of this service to me. I don’t like subscription boxes that only offer one book selection that you don’t know ahead of time. If you are interested in trying BOTM, you can use my link to get your first book for only $5!

Thriller Predictions

the book of cold cases simone st. james

The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St. James

Release date: March 15, 2022
repeat author, possible add-on

A month ago I felt certain that The Book of Cold Cases would be a BOTM pick. But after they snubbed The Paris Apartment, another well-loved repeat author, I’m no longer sure of anything this year!

This is another one of my most anticipated 2022 book releases, so once again, I don’t have much for you because I don’t want to read the synopsis. Based on the author’s previous works, you can expect a supernatural element and an alternating timeline.

her last affair john searles

Her Last Affair by John Searles

Release Date: March 22, 2022

This sounds like a thriller/romance, which I feel like we see often in BOTM. Her Last Affair is a character driven psychological suspense novel that intertwines the lives of three people with dark pasts looking to rediscover love.

nine lives peter swanson

Nine Lives by Peter Swanson

Release date: March 15, 2022

This one feels highly unlikely, so I am mostly throwing Nine Lives on this list in case anyone wasn’t aware Peter Swanson has a new book coming out. It sounds very similar to Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None as nine people who receive a list with their name on it begin to die in suspicious ways.

I did receive a widget of this title on Netgalley (before I decided I wasn’t going to request more ARCs this year!), but I haven’t decided if I’m going to read an early copy of it yet because the blurb mentioned an FBI agent and I typically don’t enjoy thriller from a detective/police POV.

the night shift alex finlay

The Night Shift by Alex Finlay

release date: march 1, 2022

With the way picks are going this year, nothing surprises me anymore, so I am including The Night Shift by Alex Finlay in my predictions.

Four girls are attacked after their shift at Blockbuster on New Year’s Eve in 1999. Only one girl survives. Fifteen years later, there is another attack in the same town and once again, only one girl survives. Now three different people connected to the crimes find their lives intersecting as they try to piece together who is behind the attacks.

the club ellery lloyd

The Club by Ellery Lloyd

Release Date: March 1, 2022
repeat author, possible add-on

This also seems unlikely as a pick, but again, BOTM is full of surprises this year. This author duo’s debut, People Like Her, was a 2020 pick with favorable reviews.

The Club is a murder mystery about the world of exclusive celebrity clubs. I love rich people drama and isolated settings, so this is definitely going on my TBR whether it is a BOTM pick or not!

Romance Prediction

the love of my life rosie walsh

The Love of My Life by Rosie Walsh

Release date: March 1, 2022
repeat Author

Leo, an obituary writer, is forced to face that he won’t have Emma, his wife who is recovering from cancer, forever and begins to write her obituary as a form of therapy. But he discovers that his wife is not who she says she is and is hiding a dark past. Now Emma must prove to Leo that she is still the woman he fell in love with despite all of her lies.

the next thing you know jessica strawser

The Next Thing You Know by Jessica Strawser

Release date: March 22, 2022
Repeat author

A Star Is Born meets Me Before You in this heartbreaking story about an end-of-life doula and a musician facing the untimely end of his career.

Contemporary Fiction Predictions

the way from here jane cockram

The Way From Here by Jane Cockram

Release date: March 1, 2022

The Way From Here sounds very similar to P.S. I Love You except the plot is about sisters instead of a married couple.

When her sister Susie dies suddenly, Mills is devastated. Then a package of letters arrives with instructions to visit various places to spread Susie’s ashes. But each place Mills visits also unravels a secret that Susie was keeping from her family.

the unsinkable greta james jennifer e. smith

The Unsinkable Greta James by Jennifer E. Smith

Release date: March 1, 2022

A young musician goes on a cruise and reconnects with her estranged father after the loss of her mother.

truth and other lies maggie smith

Truth and Other Lies by Maggie Smith

Release date: March 8, 2022

The Devil Wears Prada meets All the President’s Men in this novel following a woman who must track down an online troll and salvage her Pulitzer prize-winning boss’ reputation. This one also features family drama between the main character and her politician mother as they clash over topics such as pro-choice and #MeToo.

Fantasy/Magical Realism Predictions

one italian summer rebecca serle

One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle

Release date: march 1, 2022
Repeat Author, likely add-on, celebrity book club pick

The trip was meant to be a mother-daughter trip, but Katy’s mom unexpectedly passes away. Once Katy is on the island, she finds that her mother is there, but she is thirty years old again. Katy doesn’t understand how or why and spends the summer reconnecting with her mom and learning who she actually was.

the cartographers peng shepherd

The Cartographers by Peng Shepherd

Release Date: March 15, 2022

BOTM has been including more fantasy picks lately, so I think The Cartographers could show up in March. I’m not sure they will choose fantasy in back-to-back months, but this one is worth mentioning.

A young woman finds a mysterious map in her father’s things after his death. The map leads to an exciting adventure that will unlock her family’s dark history.

when we were birds by ayanna lloyd banwo

When We Were Birds by Ayanna Lloyd Banwo
