I have been planning my 2022 reading and most anticipated releases lists, so I know these Book of the Month predictions posts are going to be longer this year! It is exciting to see so many of my favorite authors finally releasing books.
I felt like 2021 was a bit meh in terms of book releases, but I think 2022 is going to make up for it!
In case you are new, I write a monthly Book of the Month predictions post here on my blog in place of a monthly new releases post. So many of us are obsessed with Book of the Month and when the picks will drop. Honestly writing these posts every month gets me even more excited about it, even if I am wrong about the picks!
I usually have multiple predictions for the main genres, but we have been seeing more add-ons recently. I find it easier to include multiple books per genre instead of trying to predict just the add-ons.
If you’ve been around for a while, you know Book of the Month (BOTM) is my favorite book subscription service. I love the anticipation of finally seeing the five monthly picks and always have fun trying to guess what may show up on the app on the first of every month.
If you aren’t familiar with BOTM, you can check out my full review of this subscription service. The basic idea is BOTM chooses five books from different genres every month and members can choose their pick when the books go live. You can also add on up to two more books for only $10.99 each.
If you don’t like any of the picks, you can choose to skip and save your credit for the next month, which is honestly the best part of this service to me. I don’t like subscription boxes that only offer one book selection that you don’t know ahead of time. If you are interested in trying BOTM, you can use my link to get your first book for only $5!
Thriller Predictions
The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley
Release date: February 22, 2022
Repeat Author, likely add-on
I feel like this is the obvious thriller pick for February, and I honestly think it is more likely to show up as an add-on. BOTM has previously picked The Guest List as a main pick and then The Hunting Party as an add-on.
Because this is a highly anticipated book from a favorite author, I have not read a synopsis that I can summarize for you here. You can visit the link above if you want to know more about this title.
Beneath the Stairs by Jennifer Fawcett
Release Date: February 22, 2022
Beneath the Stairs is pitched for fans of Simone St. James, Jennifer McMahon, and Chris Bohjalian, so that tells me there will be a supernatural element to this book. Sign me up!
A woman returns to her hometown twenty years after her best friend attempted suicide in a supposedly haunted house hidden in the woods.
The Cage by Bonnie Kistler
Release date: February 15, 2022
The Cage is a psychological thriller described as a cross between The Firm and The Silent Patient. The locked room aspect to this mystery definitely has me intrigued and the premise reminds me of The Escape Room by Megan Goldin, which I really enjoyed last year.
Two women, colleagues at an international fashion conglomerate, enter an elevator together but only one is still alive when they reach the bottom floor.
The Night She Went Missing by Kristen Bird
release date: February 8, 2022
Debut author
This sounds like a mix of The Night She Disappeared by Lisa Jewell and The Hunting Wives by May Cobb. Honestly, I would not have even included this on the list because it is so similar to those previous BOTM picks, but BOTM loves a debut author these days, so I am including it as a possibility.
A prep school senior disappears after being seen with a football player with a less than stellar reputation. Now three mothers in the community turn into frenemies as they piece together what happened the night the girl went missing.
Woman Last Seen by Adele Parks
Release Date: February 1, 2022
Two women from different backgrounds disappear within a week of each other and a detective investigates what happened, as he is convinced the two cases are somehow related.
Romance Prediction
One Night on the Island by Josie Silver
Release date: February 15, 2022
Repeat Author, likely add-on
This is another repeat author, but I do think this book is more likely to be an add-on if it is picked.
A man and woman both seeking a break from their crumbling lives find themselves doubled booked in the same one-room cabin on an island. With only one weekly ferry to and from the island, the duo doesn’t know how they will manage to survive the cruel twist of fate.
Lease on Love by Falon Ballard
Release date: February 1, 2022
Debut Author
Beach Read meets The Flat Share in a hilarious rom-com about a woman who gets her dating app and roommate apps mixed up.
Lockdown on London Lane by Beth Reekles
Release date: February 1, 2022
This is being published by Wattpad Books, so it seems highly unlikely this book will show up as a pick, but I felt it was worth mentioning.
Friendships and relationships are tested as the residents of an apartment building are quarantined together for seven days.
Contemporary Fiction Predictions
The Bright Side Running Club by Josie Lloyd
Release date: February 8, 2022
A moving and uplifting novel about a woman diagnosed with breast cancer who joins a running club with three other ladies.

Release date: February 15, 2022
A British-Congolese teacher uproots his life after a devastating loss and goes on a journey to America in hopes of finding a new life and escape his past.
How to Find Your Way Home by Katy Regan
Release date: February 15, 2022
Two estranged siblings attempt to repair their relationships after the brother appears at his sister’s office in need of help.
Mystery Prediction
Homicide and Halo-Halo by Mia P. Manansala
Release Date: February 8, 2022
Repeat Author, likely add-on
This is the second book in the Tita Rosie’s Kitchen series. I’m not sure how popular the first book was as a main pick, so I’m not sure how likely it is that the second book will be picked up. I do think it will be an add-on for sure if show up in the February picks.
Historical Fiction Predictions
Shadows of Pecan Hollow by Caroline Frost
Release date: February 8, 2022
Debut author
Honestly it hurts my soul that this book is historical fiction because it takes place in Texas in the 1970s and 90s. The 90s just don’t feel that long ago to me!
This is a story about a young girl who is abducted and groomed by a man to be his partner in crime robbing gas stations. Years later, she has made a life for herself, but the man shows up at her doorstep after getting out of prison.
Circus of Wonders by Elizabeth Macneal
Release date: February 1, 2022
A young woman finds a home and family after being sold to the circus as the “leopard girl” due to her birthmarks.
A Lullaby For Witches by Hester Fox
Release date: February 1, 2022
A young woman who never fit in with her well-to-do family is accused of being a witch. Over a century later, another woman takes a job at a museum and discovers mention of the woman who was expunged from the family record for witchcraft. A dark power connects both of the women across the lines of time and blood.
Literary Fiction Predictions
Mercy Street by Jennifer Haigh
release date: February 1, 2022
A novel about the patients of a counselor at a women’s clinic in Boston and the unique way their lives begins to intersect.
Don’t Cry For Me by Daniel Black

What the Fireflies Knew by Kai Harris
Release Date: February 1, 2022
debut author
A coming-of-age novel about two sisters living with their estranged grandfather after their parents have died.

I think May Cobb’s upcoming release may be in there!
Allison says
I think that one comes out later in the year, but I hope it is a pick or add-on!
Lisa says
Yes to The Paris Apartment. Was thinking same thing. I look forward to reading it. Had a hard time getting into The Guest List at first but ended up liking It. Thinking an add-on. Just read The Magnolia Palace. Palace/apartment. Same cover color scheme so that why I think add-on. If available, I’ll get it.
Allison says
Paris Apartment is definitely an add-on if it shows up. Hopefully we know soon!
