I am changing some things up on my blog, which is actually good news for my fellow Book of the Month fanatics! I am no longer writing monthly new releases posts, but I am now including multiple book predictions for each genre on these Book of the Month prediction posts!
If you’ve been around for a while, you know Book of the Month (BOTM) is my favorite book subscription service. I love the anticipation of finally seeing the five monthly picks and always have fun trying to guess what may show up on the app on the first of every month.
If you aren’t familiar with BOTM, you can check out my full review of this subscription service. The basic idea is BOTM chooses five books from different genres every month and members can choose their pick when the books go live. You can also add on up to two more books for only $10.99 each.
If you don’t like any of the picks, you can choose to skip and save your credit for the next month, which is honestly the best part of this service to me. I don’t like subscription boxes that only offer one book selection that you don’t know ahead of time. If you are interested in trying BOTM, you can use my link to get your first book for only $5!

Thriller Predictions
The Secret Next Door by Rebecca Taylor
Release date: November 9, 2021
This prediction is 100% my own personal hopes and dreams because The Secret Next Door focuses on a neighborhood of rich people and the secrets they are all hiding. This year I discovered I love books with rich people drama, so this is a book I’m really hoping BOTM picks up. But I also know the title sounds too similar to a previous pick, The Neighbor’s Secret, so I guess we will see if they pick another book with a similar premise.
All Her Little Secrets by Wanda M. Morris
Release date: November 2, 2021
It feels like it has been a while since we’ve had a legal thriller pick, so I feel like All Her Little Secrets is likely to be a BOTM pick in November. Ellice is a Black lawyer working for a corporate law firm in downtown Atlanta. She goes to the office one morning to meet her boss, Michael, who she is also having an affair with, and finds him dead in the office. But instead of calling the police, Ellice makes the decision to walk away and pretend she was never there. Now Ellice finds herself promoted to replace Michael in the company and begins to uncover secrets within the firm as her past and present begin to collide in a surprising way.
Suspense Prediction
The Surrogate by Toni Halleen
Release date: November 2, 2021
A newlywed couple hires a teenage girl to be their surrogate. The teenager has a change of heart at the last minute and leaves the hospital with the newborn. Now the surrogate is on the run with her on-again, off-again boyfriend as the couple pursues her and their baby. This sounds like it will have some social commentary on surrogacy based on the reviews I read on Goodreads.
Romance Prediction
Just Haven’t Met You Yet by Sophie Cousens
Release date: November 9, 2021
Just Haven’t Met You Yet would be a repeat author pick, so I feel pretty confident about it showing up either as the romance pick or as an add-on. Laura heads to the Channel Islands to write a story about where her parents met. But when she arrives at her hotel, she discovers she has picked up the wrong luggage from the airport. Laura is convinced the owner is her soulmate based on the contents of the luggage and sets off to find the owner. This sounds like the perfect fluffy romance book I crave during the holidays, so I hope it shows up in BOTM in November or even December.
Fantasy Prediction
The Sentence by Louise Erdrich
Release Date: November 9, 2021
A Minneapolis bookstore is haunted by its most annoying customer after they die on All Souls’ Day. Now she will not leave the store, and an employee must solve the mystery of why this customer continues to hang around while also navigating events in the city. This book takes place in November 2019 through November 2020 and centers on current events in Minneapolis during that time.
A Marvellous Light by Freya Marske
Release date: November 2, 2021
I am hesitant about this one being a pick because Goodreads lists this as the first book in a series. It is also a mash up of genres, including fantasy, romance, and historical fiction. The blurb describes it as Red White and Royal Blue meets Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. A non-magical man is given a job at a hidden magical society. He soon discovers that his predecessor has gone missing under mysterious circumstances and uncovers a plot that threatens all of the magicians on the British Isles.
Contemporary Fiction Prediction
Wish You Were Here by Jodi Picoult
Release date: November 30, 2021
Diana must go on a vacation to the Galapagos Islands alone after her boyfriend Finn, a doctor at the local hospital, is stuck working due to a virus outbreak. Now Diana finds her dream vacation falling apart as she is quarantined on the island until borders reopen. Diana meets a local family and everything changes as the daughter reveals a secret to Diana. Now she is questioning everything about her life and wonders if she will return home as the same person. The synopsis is not clear, but I am assuming the virus mentioned is Covid-19, so I don’t know if BOTM will pick another Covid-19 book so soon after 56 Days.
Historical Fiction Predictions
The Sisters Sweet by Elizabeth Weiss
Release date: November 30, 2021
A coming-of-age story about two sisters who are forced by their parents to pretend to be conjoined twins. Eventually, one of the sisters leaves and goes on to bigger and better things in Hollywood. The remaining sister, who was the less talented of the two, now struggles to live up to their mother’s increasingly high expectations for her.
The French Gift by Kristy Manning
Release date: November 2, 2021
This historical fiction book has a murder-mystery plot in dual timelines. In the 1940s, two women meet in a French prison and are eventually transferred to a brutal German work camp. In the present day, the great nephew of one of the women has died and his family travels to her villa, which is now theirs by inheritance. There they discover a forgotten manuscript that details the truth behinds a decades old murder.
The Pilot’s Daughter by Meredith Jaeger
Release Date: November 2, 2021
After finding out her father has died in the war, a young woman and her aunt travel to New York to search for the woman from love letters found in her father’s coat.
Literary Fiction Prediction
Burntcoat by Sarah Hall
Release Date: November 2,2021
A fictional memoir of a woman who is living her last days after falling ill with a virus. Although not specifically mentioned, much of the story centers on what sounds very similar to the events of March 2020 when the world essentially shut down due to COVID-19 as the main character and her lover entered quarantine together in her studio, Burntcoat.
