I honestly debated even making a Book of the Month predictions post for June.
I know a lot of us were, once again, disappointed by May’s picks. I don’t even think it was necessarily the books themselves but rather the lack of “expected” titles.
I also feel like I am contributing to the disappointment by writing a predictions post, but I enjoy writing them and researching what books are coming out, so I will continue to post them. Going forward, let’s all agree to consider these more of a “possibilities” list than actual predictions because I don’t think I can accurately predict what BOTM is going to do each month.
The picks have been all over the place but I do love that they are including more fantasy lately. You won’t find many “mainstream” popular releases on the June predictions list. And let’s face it-most people already know about those books and BOTM is sending us the message that their service is meant for readers to discover new authors.
If you’ve been around for a while, you know Book of the Month (BOTM) is my favorite book subscription service. I love the anticipation of finally seeing the seven monthly picks and always have fun trying to guess what may show up on the app on the first of every month.
If you aren’t familiar with BOTM, you can check out my full review of this subscription service. The basic idea is BOTM chooses 5-7 books from different genres every month and members can choose their pick when the books go live. You can also add on up to two more books for only $10.99 each.
If you don’t like any of the picks, you can choose to skip and save your credit for the next month, which is honestly the best part of this service to me. I don’t like subscription boxes that only offer one book selection that you don’t know ahead of time. If you are interested in trying BOTM, you can use my link to get your first book for only $5!
As usual, these are just my opinions and my predictions. It is fine if you disagree or think the predictions are terrible-we all have different reading tastes. Please remember to be kind in comments or messages because we are all readers with different tastes!
Thriller/Mystery Predictions
I am going to make a bold statement that The House Across the Lake by Riley Sager will not be a pick or add-on this year. I think it would be a mistake because it has to be a huge seller for them every year, but with all the complaints about repeat authors, I will just be surprised if it is a pick in June.

Allison says
You’re welcome! ☺️
Brianna Soloski says
Yes! Please don’t stop sharing these. I love that you’ve predicted a ton of new to me authors and that these books are a little off the beaten path.
Allison says
I’m glad you enjoy the posts! ☺️
Ema says
I also like your posts even if the books don’t end up to be picks (and I agree with you the last couple of months have been completely unpredictable). The Lies I Tell has been now confirmed by the teaser, as has The Things We Do in the Dark, neither of which I am interested in (I do like thrillers but I prefer to read them on Kindle). This also excludes the Riley Sager (but I think it will make a July pick or add-on). I hope there will be a pick that I am immediately drawn to because it’s my birthday month and I want to get Lessons in Chemistry as an add on!
Allison says
I ended up going with Things We Do In The Dark even though it honestly wasn’t on my radar. I also added The Stardust Thief at the last minute! Hopefully you found something to pick this month!
Mary Kate says
LOVE this! Even if the predictions aren’t correct, it gives me a great breakdown of books coming out!
Allison says
Thank you! ☺️
