October is my favorite month of the year. We get a (small) fall break from school. The weather finally cools off. There are fall festivals and football every Saturday. And it is finally spooky season.
You would think that since October is the start of spooky season, there would be tons of mystery/thriller or horror new book releases. But there are actually quite a few holiday themed books releasing this month! And five of these books feature covers in a variation of my favorite color (teal/mint), so I am feeling like I need to buy all of these books for my shelves!
Most Anticipated New Book Releases of October 2020
In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren
I’m still somewhat new to the Christina Lauren fanbase, but I have really enjoyed the two books I have read by this author duo. I actually don’t know what this book is about because all I needed to know was 1) holiday romance by Christina Lauren and 2) that stunning cover! I was lucky enough to receive an eARC of In a Holidaze via Netgalley (and I may have read and reviewed this title by the time this post is live!).
The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisher
This horror novel sounds absolutely amazing and unique. A young woman finds hidden bunker in her uncle’s house and discovers there are different portals within the bunker. But each portal leads to an alternate reality where there are creatures who seem to have the ability to read minds. And the more you fear them, the stronger they become. The Hollow Places sounds absolutely perfect for spooky season, and I have an eARC of this title on my October TBR!
Leave the World Behind by Rumaan Alam
This book hits a little too close to home given the current state of the world. A white couple leaves NYC with their two children for a relaxing vacation. While at their rented vacation home, the homeowners, an older black couple, arrive with news that a blackout has occurred in NYC. With no way to contact anyone in the city, the vacationing couple must decide if they can trust the homeowners. Early reviews say Leave the World Behind explores themes of race and class while also pack a punch with psychological suspense!
Invisible Girl by Lisa Jewell
This is the last eARC I have for October, and it is another one I don’t know much about because I’ve enjoyed both books I’ve read by this author. Lisa Jewell has a way with writing stories that capture my attention, and I devoured The Family Upstairs last fall, so I’m expecting to love Invisible Girl this year.
