Book of the Month July 2021 Predictions

Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning I receive a small compensation to help support my blog if you decide to make a purchase through my links at no cost to you.

If you’ve been around for a while, you know Book of the Month (BOTM) is my favorite book subscription service. I love the anticipation of finally seeing the five monthly picks and always have fun trying to guess what may show up on the app on the first of every month.

If you aren’t familiar with BOTM, you can check out my full review of this subscription service. The basic idea is BOTM chooses five books from different genres every month and members can choose their pick when the books go live. You can also add on up to two more books for only $9.99 each.

If you don’t like any of the picks, you can choose to skip and save your credit for the next month, which is honestly the best part of this service to me. I don’t like subscription boxes that only offer one book selection that you don’t know ahead of time. If you are interested in trying BOTM, you can use my link to get your first book for only $5!

This is my first BOTM predictions post, and I don’t know why I’ve waited this long to start! I already research new book releases each month, so why not throw out my guesses for what we might see from BOTM too?

I am not including a fantasy prediction because generally, we don’t see many fantasy picks. There was an early release fantasy pick in June, so I doubt we see another fantasy pick in July.

Contemporary Fiction Prediction

Everyone in This Room Will Someday Be Dead by Emily Austin

Described by early reviewers as “heartbreaking and hilarious,” Everyone in This Room Will Someday Be Dead sounds right on brand for a BOTM pick! This book follows a young woman, Gilda, who is obsessed with death and responds to a flyer for free therapy sessions at a church. The minister thinks Gilda is there to interview for the receptionist job. Gilda doesn’t correct him and ends up being offered the job. She does not disclose to the church that she is an atheist lesbian and struggles to learn the ins and outs of the church.

While going through old emails for Grace, the previous receptionist, Gilda discovers an email from an old friend who does not know Grace has passed away. Gilda can’t bear the thought of breaking the news to Grace’s friend, so she begins to impersonate Grace via email. However, it is discovered that Grace’s death was not an accident, and now Gilda is a prime suspect in the investigation because of her emails with Grace’s friend.

Romance Prediction

the dating playbook farrah rochon july 2021 new book releases

The Dating Playbook (The Boyfriend Project #2) by Farrah Rochon

This is my romance prediction simply because the first book in this series was an early release pick last year! The Dating Playbook follows one of Samiah’s friends from The Boyfriend Project, Taylor, who is a personal trainer. She is struggling to make ends meet and lands a huge opportunity to work with a former NFL player, Jamar Dixon, who wants to play football again. Jamar wants to keep their training a secret, but when they are seen together, the media reports they are in a relationship.

Thriller Prediction

the sinful lives of trophy wives kristin miller july 2021 new book releases

The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives by Kristin Miller

BOTM loves a domestic thriller, so I think there is a good chance The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives will be the thriller pick. I never look into a thriller synopsis too much, so if you are interested in a fully synopsis, you can click the link above to read it. From what I have read, this sounds like a domestic thriller from three wives’ POVs and will be full of rich people drama as all three women live in huge mansions in an exclusive neighborhood in California. I’m sure this will be a twisty summer thriller perfect for the beach!

Literary Fiction Prediction

the tiger mom's tale lyn liao butler july 2021 new book releases

The Tiger Mom’s Tale by Lyn Liao Butler

BOTM loves an emotional book, so I feel like The Tiger Mom’s Tale will show up as a July pick. Lexa, a Taiwanese American woman, has never felt like she belonged in her family. She was raised in America with her mom and stepfather, while her father lived in Taiwan. When Lexa’s father passes away, she inherits his estate and must make a choice that could cost her family in Taiwan their homes.

Historical Fiction Prediction

the forest of vanishing stars kristin harmel july 2021 new book releases

The Forest of Vanishing Stars by Kristin Harmel

Historical fiction is a staple genre for BOTM picks, and I feel like The Forest of Vanishing Stars will make the cut in July. This World World II novel follows Yona, who is kidnapped when she is very young and raised in the woods. Her captor dies and she is suddenly left alone. Yona stumbles upon a group of Jews hiding from the Nazis and learns of the war occurring outside the forest. Yona agrees to stay with the group and uses her survival skills to help them-but the group will also teach her an important life lesson.

Add On Predictions

Add on books are never guaranteed, but members have come to expect at least one new add on book each month. These books can not be chosen as a main pack in your box, but they can be added to your box for $9.99 each.

survive the night riley sager june 2021 new book releases

Survive the Night by Riley Sager

I know Sager has said Survive the Night will not be a BOTM pick, but that doesn’t mean it won’t still be an add-on option! His books are very popular among BOTM readers, but there has been some complaints about repeat authors showing up as main picks every year. I actually found a copy of this in stores early, so I have already read this and hope it is a pick because a lot of people are going to love this!

All you need to know is Survive the Night takes place in 1991. The world was very different then and people were more trusting of each other. Charlie is a college student who needs to get home, so she catches a ride with a guy she doesn’t know. Strangely, the man is leaving at 9:00 at night, but Charlie is just desperate enough to leave that she doesn’t question it. Charlie’s roommate was killed by the Campus Killer, and the grief and guilt is too much for Charlie to handle. But as the two stranger continue the trip, Charlie become increasingly suspicious of the man behind the wheel and begins to wonder if he is the Campus Killer.

the devil and the heiress june 2021 new book releases

The Devil and the Heiress (The Gilded Age Heiresses #2) by Harper St. George

There were a lot of disappointed readers when this wasn’t a June BOTM pick, but I think there’s a chance it will be an add-on in July since the first book in this regency romance series was so popular. I’m not familiar with the series, so I’m not sure if these need to be read in order. I’m guessing each book follows a different heiress though.

Do you agree with my predictions? What book do you hope shows up as a July 2021 BOTM pick? Let me know in the comments!
