The Burning Side by Sarah Damoff – This contemporary fiction is an excellent addition to a summer reading list because it delivers a powerful family saga that unfolds like a slow-burning domestic drama. When a house fire exposes long-buried cracks in April and Leo’s marriage, the aftermath becomes a layered exploration of grief, memory, and the fragile bonds holding a family together.

Dolly All the Time by Annabel Monaghan – What begins as a fake relationship between Dolly and Stewart quickly evolves into something far more emotionally complicated. Set in a coastal Rhode Island town surrounded by wealth and social expectations, the story balances light summer romance energy with deeper questions about independence, trust, and letting people in.

The One Day You Were My Husband by Rosie Walsh – A whirlwind beach wedding in Thailand ends in disappearance, and years later the past refuses to stay buried. As buried truths resurface, the novel moves between past and present with steady tension, blending romantic intensity with a growing sense of mystery and emotional reckoning.

Our Perfect Storm by Carley Fortune – A lush coastal setting in Tofino frames a story about friendship, second chances, and emotional rediscovery. This is the kind of immersive summer read that leans into atmosphere as much as romance, making it an easy fit for summer reading.

The Summer Share by Jenn McKinlay – This romance delivers exactly the kind of sun-soaked romance and small-town charm readers crave during the season. Set in a coastal North Carolina town, it pairs a free-spirited travel influencer with a grounded, reluctant co-owner of a crumbling beach house, creating a classic enemies-to-lovers dynamic full of tension and chemistry.

Down with the Shipmans by Meg Mitchell Moore – A family reunion at a beloved summer home turns into a reckoning for three sisters navigating grief, identity, and change. The nostalgic coastal setting anchors a story that balances humor with emotional fallout as old dynamics resurface.

The Great Outdoors by Kayla Olson – A structured, high-intensity wilderness trek in the High Sierras becomes the backdrop for unexpected connection and self-discovery. As Sadie is pushed far outside her comfort zone, the slow-burn romance develops naturally alongside her personal growth. I was lucky enough to receive an advanced reader copy of this, so I will have a review up soon!

The Last Time We Saw Her by Jaclyn Goldis – A reunion documentary in the Azores reopens a decade-old disappearance and exposes long-simmering tensions within a group of former summer campers. What starts as reflection quickly turns into a tightly wound mystery with deadly consequences.

Lost in the Summer of ’69 by Eliza Knight – A cross-country road trip following a missing mother turns into a sweeping generational story of music, identity, and freedom. Set during the 1969 festival era, it captures the spirit of movement, rebellion, and family connection.

When You Loved Me by Beatriz Williams – A decaying island estate, a fractured family history, and a centuries-old survival story intertwine on Winthrop Island. The result is an atmospheric blend of coastal mystery and emotional reconstruction that unfolds across timelines.

Crash Into Me by Robinne Lee – Set within the polished but volatile world of Los Angeles privilege, this story follows a woman forced to confront identity, desire, and the roles she has outgrown. A chance encounter disrupts everything she thought she understood about her life.

The Final Score by Lana Ferguson – Forced proximity and emotional rebuilding shape this character-driven romance between two people dealing with personal collapse in different forms. It balances warmth, humor, and vulnerability in a way that works well for lighter summer reading without feeling shallow. Lana Ferguson is another auto-buy author for me, and I will immediately be reading my preorder when it arrives!

Getting Way With Murder by Shari Lepena – A wealthy couple’s financial panic leads them down an increasingly dangerous path in this tightly wound domestic thriller. Suspicion, secrecy, and marital strain drive a story that escalates quickly and keeps tension high throughout.

Hot Girl Murder Club by Ashley Winstead – A Hollywood pop star becomes the center of a murder investigation that blurs the line between fame, perception, and truth. As secrets from the past resurface, the story builds into a fast-moving thriller about image and control in Los Angeles.

The Romance Revival by Christina Lauren – A scientific breakthrough gives a grieving widow the chance to rebuild a lost marriage—but memory and reality don’t align the way she hopes. This speculative romance explores love, loss, and second chances through an emotional, high-concept premise.

just for the summer abby jimenez book of the month april 2024 predictions
lock every door riley sager
the love hypothesis ali hazelwood
this summer will be different carley fortune book of the month may 2024 predictions

The Island by Adrian McKinty – I read this on vacation last summer and could not put it down! What begins as a family vacation in the Australian outback quickly spirals into a fight for survival when a seemingly harmless detour lands a newly blended family in the middle of a nightmare.

Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez – This was my first book from Abby Jimenez and it started my journey of reading all of her backlist books! Warm, heartfelt, and impossible not to root for, this is the kind of romance that will have you smiling from beginning to end

Lock Every Door by Riley Sager – I think this remains my favorite Riley Sager book! Atmospheric, suspenseful, and impossible to put down, this is the perfect summer read for anyone who loves locked-room mysteries, creepy settings, and thrillers that keep you guessing until the final pages.

The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood – This was the romance book that started it all for me! I gave it a chance and fell in love with rom-com books. Lighthearted, charming, and packed with memorable moments, this is the kind of feel-good romance that makes for perfect summer reading, whether you’re relaxing by the pool or escaping into a book on vacation.

This Summer Will Be Different by Carley Fortune – If you loved the atmosphere and seasonal nostalgia of The Summer I Turned Pretty but want a more mature romance with adult characters and higher emotional stakes, this book could absolutely scratch that itch. Set on Prince Edward Island, the novel is filled with everything readers love about summer fiction: coastal scenery, beach walks, fresh seafood, and a romance that feels impossible to resist.

Whether you’re spending the summer at the beach, by the pool, on vacation, or simply enjoying a quiet evening on the porch, the right book can make the season even more memorable. This summer reading list 2026 is packed with unforgettable stories, from heart-pounding thrillers and emotional family dramas to swoon-worthy romances and immersive escapes.

The best summer books are the ones that keep you reading long after you planned to put them down, and every title on this list has the potential to become your next favorite read. Pick one that catches your eye, add a few to your TBR, and get ready for a season filled with great books and even better reading memories.
